CEMADE

Democratic Republic of Congo

The Centre d'études multisectorielles pour l'appui au développement (Asbl CEMADE) is a non-profit, secular and non-political organisation, created in Goma on 20 May 2007.

The creation of CEMADE was motivated by the significant deterioration of the living conditions of the populations of the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, specifically the populations of North and South Kivu, following a long period of armed conflict which led to the almost total destruction of the socio-economic fabric in almost all sectors of life, and serious human rights violations.

CEMADE intervenes mainly in the following areas

  • the prevention and fight against conflicts and human rights violations, specifically the rights of women and children
  • socio-economic reintegration of vulnerable youth and women
  • education
  • food security
  • protection and promotion of human rights
  • environmental protection;
  • water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH);
  • rehabilitation and construction of social infrastructure.
